Long Lasting Base Makeup

Last weekend, I went to see Enter Shikari in London. Now, being from Birmingham, London is a bit of a way to travel for a gig, so we decided to make a day of it and stop off in Oxford on the way, have a wander around and grab some food before heading into London. As it was going to be a while before the gig actually started, I wanted to make sure my makeup would stay on my face throughout the day and also last in a crowd of sweaty people.

I always start off my makeup routine by moisturising my face with my Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, so that was my first step. Here's a tip for you if you think you have oily skin - always ensure that you moisturise. For years I thought that my skin was oily until I started moisturising properly. I found that my skin was so dehydrated that it was producing oil to combat the dryness and once I started using a moisturiser, my skin started to look fairly 'normal' and wasn't looking nearly as shiny throughout the day.

After moisturiser, I then went on to prime my face with the Nivea Men Post Shave Balm (full blog post) which is amazing at keeping your makeup in place. The next thing I did was grab my Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer and applied it to any blemishes or redness on my face. I didn't blend that in until I applied my foundation and for that I mixed the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation and Nars Sheer Glow together as I wanted quite good coverage, but still wanted a bit of a glow to my skin. I applied those two with a buffing brush, and blended it all into my skin until it was even. To conceal my undereyes I applied a tiny bit of the Sensual Skin Enhancer with the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. The SSE can get a bit creasy if you apply too much of it on its own so I always mix it with another concealer for undereyes. Straight after I'd blended that out, I applied some of the Anastasia Beverley Hills Banana powder to set the concealer and went over my entire face with my Nars Pressed Setting Powder. I really like this powder as it sets my foundation without matifying and still leaves a fresh, healthy radiance. When all of my base products were applied and blended in, I did a few sprays of the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray - this just makes all the products on your face settle into your skin so that there's no cakiness or excess powder sitting on top of your skin. Once I'd applied the rest of my makeup, I decided to give my face another quick spritz with the UD setting spray just to ensure that everything was going to stay in place.

I was really pleasantly surprised at how long my makeup lasted this day and the only time I felt the need to sweep a bit of powder over my T-zone was just before the gig as I knew it was going to be hot and sweaty in there. I'll definitely be using all of these products together again if I ever want my makeup to stay on all day.
