My Top Three Highlighters

Benefit Watts Up
I thought I'd start with this one as it's my favourite highlighter in the whole world. This is the one product that I know I can count on if I'm having one of those days where my skin looks really dull. I think being a cream highlighter is what makes it so great as it's so bendable. I like to build it up on my cheek and brow bones, put a little bit down my nose, on my cupids bow and sometimes a tiny bit on my forehead and chin. I've found that the best way to blend it out is using a damp beauty blender, but I do tend to use my fingers a lot of the time, which also works just fine. I find that if I've applied a lot of powdery products before, it does make this highlighter look a little strange, so maybe bear that in mind if it's not quite working for you. This creamy champagne beauty has absolutely no glitter in it, so you're never running the risk of looking too sparkly in the sunlight. I'm not quite sure how it does the job so well, but it just does. Every time I wear it, I get complimented on how fresh and glowy my skin looks.
The above picture is me wearing it on my cheek and brow bones and down my nose. It gives a really nice glow to my very dull skin and although it's not really a subtle highlighter, it definitely doesn't look over the top.
The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer
Now this product is probably one of the most talked about highlighters on the planet. I feel like I can really tell when someone is wearing Mary-Lou on their cheekbones. It's the most intense highlighter I've ever come across and that's why I love it. A lot of people suggest to go sparingly with this one, but I like to do the complete opposite. I put so much on that I probably look like a human glitter ball - it's so pretty, I just can't help myself! It's a finely milled, silky smooth champagne powder with a tiny little bit of glitter in it, that is only really noticeable in direct sunlight. Seriously though, with one swipe of this baby, you're good to go for the day. This product photographs so beautifully, no matter the lighting situation - it really stands out. I wear this one every day for work as I don't usually have much time to go all out with my makeup and I just feel like it brightens up my face a bit. One really great thing is that they now sell The Balm in Superdrug, so now it's even easier to get your hands on!
Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold
Right, firstly, I'm just going to mention the packaging... Charlotte Tilbury, as a brand, are known for their dreamy packaging, I think that's one of the reasons that their products are so well loved. For £32 it's definitely a bit of a joke that it comes in that crappy magnetic cardboard packaging (if you own the original Naked palette, you'll know what I mean). However, I knew what it was going to be like when purchasing it, so more fool me. Anyway, the packaging doesn't bother me THAT much - it is rose gold, so I shall let CT off there. Now, lets talk about the product itself as I definitely didn't purchase it for the packaging! This skin gilding highlighter is a new purchase for me, I've only owned it about two weeks, but it's already a favourite. It's is a gorgeous light gold, which is beautifully silky smooth with zero glitter, so you're not at the risk of it looking at all chunky on the skin. It's a really subtle highlighter that glides onto the skin effortlessly, creating a natural luminosity and is really buildable. Although the product is teeny weeny, I feel like it will last a really long time as you don't need a lot to create a beautiful glow. I know that Charlotte Tilbury herself has a lot of involvement with her products and I feel like she has done really well with this one, despite the packaging being a little disappointing, I'm very happy to have it in my life!

Mary-Lou Manizer, in true blogger cliche, is definitely my favourite highlighter, but I had no idea that Superdrug were now selling the Balm! That's amazing to know, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI just can't seem to get on with Watts Up but I have been putting it on top of powder products, so now you've said that I know that's probably where I'm going wrong haha

Yes, Mary-Lou is very much a blogger favourite I think! I'm PRETTY sure they sell The Balm in Debenhams as well now - dangerous!
ReplyDeleteI felt the same about Watts Up for a long time. I found it was taking off my makeup underneath when I swept it on. I find you have to apply it right on the tops of your cheekbones and blend well. I also found if I was struggling with it a tad it was better to put a bit on my finger first instead of applying it directly from the stick to the face. lt definitely didn't work for me when I had a lot of powder on my face!
