New York Beauty Haul

18:42

It's been a month since my boyfriend and I went to New York, so I thought now was the best time for a haul as its given me enough time to try out all (but one) of the products.

Just a warning...it's going to be a bit of a long one, with mini reviews and swatches. I'd grab a cuppa.

1. Kiehl's: Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
I don't really know what an eye cream does exactly, or if I even need to use one at my age. All I know is that this product feels, and smells amazing. I like to apply it under my eyes and around the socket area in the morning and before bed. If I've ever had a late night or not slept very well, applying a tiny bit just makes me feel so refreshed.

2. Nars: Radiant Creamy Concealer
I had just about run out of this concealer when I was in New York, so this was my excuse to take a trip to Sephora... Now on my third bottle, I've realised that I'm pretty much addicted.  It's a really lovely concealer with a creamy consistency, as the name would suggest. I use this in the inner corner of my eye to conceal the blue areas and I also use it to highlight my forehead, brow bone, the centre of my nose and my chin. I don't use this concealer directly under my eyes as it does tend to crease quite badly, but for everything else (even blemishes) it's great.

3. Kat Von D: Tattoo Liner
This is such an amazing liquid eye liner. The pen is so thin, making it so easy to apply. What I like about it is that it has a tiny brush tip, rather than a sponge so it won't dry up as quickly as most liquid eye liners.

4. Make Up For Ever: Aqua Cream - 13 Warm Beige
I'm really liking cream eyeshadows at the moment and I had heard quite a lot of good things about the Aqua Creams, and Make Up For Ever in general really, so I was really excited to have a browse. I picked up number 13 which is a really lovely champagne colour; very subtle on the eyes but super pretty.

5. MAC: Pro Longwear Eye Shadow - Uninterrupted
This eyeshadow is my new obsession. I've worn it almost every day since I got it and I love it SO much. I like to just pop it all over the lid and then bring it quite low underneath my lower lash line. I find that it goes really well with MAC's Velvet Teddy lipstick.

6. Sephora: Matte Lipstick - Brown is Back
Whilst in New York, I made it my mission to find the perfect matte brown lipstick. After dragging my boyfriend around almost every Sephora I came across (and that was a lot), Duane Reade, MAC and CVS and not succeeding, I had just about given up. On our last day, I had one last mooch in Sephora. I never really looked at the Sephora range because there was just SO much, but I decided to have a quick look at the lipsticks before I left and swatched a few, when I came across 'Brown is Back' all on its own...swatched it, loved it, bought it and applied it straight away. I even got complimented on it by one of the staff in Victoria's Secret - WIN!

7. Anastasia Beverley Hills: Contour Kit
I don't know how I ever got by without this. 'Fawn' is the perfect contour shade for me, I apply it to the hollows of my cheeks, on my temples, in my hairline, under my bottom lip and down the sides of my nose and the difference it makes is amazing. I like to use 'Banana' on top of any concealed blemishes and it just helps to counteract the redness. I use 'Vanilla' to set my under eye concealer, as it has a slight pink-tone to it, and I sometimes like 'Sand' as a cheek/brow bone highlight as it has some slight shimmer in it. The other two colours, 'Havana' and 'Java' make really nice matte bronzers as they are more warm-toned. I also really love using them as eyeshadows as they're quite similar to 'Uninterrupted' by MAC. I just love this palette.

8. Elizabeth and James: Nirvana - White
This was another thing that I'd heard a ton of people rave about and after having a whiff in Sephora, I was hooked, and that is all. I'm terrible at describing scents, so I'm not even going to try.

9. MAC: Lip Pencil - Soar
I can't even explain how difficult this was to get my hands on. This was another thing that I managed to snap up on the last day from Saks Fifth Avenue. It looks really nice on its own or paired with Twig by MAC.

10. MAC: Lip Pencil - Boldly Bare
Another much loved lip pencil in the YouTube/blogging industry. This is a really nice nude which can be used underneath more or less any lipstick as a base.

11. MAC: Lip Pencil - Spice
My favourite lip pencil to pair with Velvet Teddy by MAC. It also looks great under any dark nude/brown lipstick.

12. Tarte: Amazonian 12-Hour Blush - Blushing Bride
I spent a lot of time trying to choose a colour from the Amazonian 12-Hour blush collection as they were all so pretty. I have a lot of blushers in my collection already, but nothing really like this one. It's a sort of dusky/muted pink which looks really nice on the cheeks. One thing that I've noticed about this blusher, is that it does do what it says on the tin, it lasts really well on the skin, whereas a lot of powder blushers don't. I'm just happy to finally have my hands on a Tarte blusher!

13. Kat Von D: Lock-It Tattoo Concealer
This was one thing that I was really intrigued and excited about, and rightly so. Blemishes, dark circles, redness - it does the job. I use about two layers to get the best coverage. However, there are two very minor downfalls about this product. Firstly, the colour range isn't great. I went for the second to lightest shade as I thought I couldn't possibly be the palest shade - I was wrong. I can cope with it though. Also, when I first used it, it seemed very watery, but I persevered as I really wanted it to work and after about three uses, the liquid completely disappeared, so if you do experience this, do not be put off because once you've got past the watery stage, it really is an amazing concealer.

14. Milani: Baked Blush - 01 Dolce Pink
I actually really like this blusher. It looks quite shimmery in the pan and the colour is quite sheer, so once it's applied to the cheeks, it looks so pretty and works as a blusher and a highlight.

15. Clinique: Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
My holy grail moisturiser. This is another product that really does feel like it's doing exactly what it says on the tin and a little goes a long way! It's a really light, thin consistency so it feels really refreshing and doesn't sit on the skin and feel tacky.

16. Tweezerman: Rose Gold Eyelash Curlers
They're actually really good eyelash curlers, AND they're rose gold, need I say more?

17. Too Faced: Better Than Sex Mascara
I haven't actually tried this out yet as I'm still using my Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara which I'll mention below, but I've heard that this one is amazing and the packaging is really pretty. Speaking of the packaging, it's a really freaking heavy mascara! Haha

18. Kiehl's: Micro-Blur Skin Perfector
This reminds me a lot of the Benefit Porefessional primer, but for some reason, I prefer this one. I'm not quite sure what it is about it, it may be that it feels a tad lighter on the skin, but I like it so it's all good.

19. Benefit: Gimme Brow
I love this stuff. I have really crap eyebrows and this just makes them look more volumized and full, if that makes sense? I'm not a fan of perfectly precise eyebrows so this works really well for me.

20. Maybelline: Lash Sensational Mascara
I always find it really difficult to find a decent drugstore mascara. I usually opt for my Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume mascara (gosh, Clinique love their lengthy titles) to separate and add volume, and my Benefit They're Real over the top of that. However, this has definitely replaced those two (for now). I find that it really clings to the lashes to lengthen and add volume. As the brush is a bit of a funny shape, it does make it hard to coat the bottom lashes, so I just use my Clinique Bottom Lash mascara as usual. My first thought when looking at that brush was that it would just make my top lashes clump together, but I don't think I could make them clumpy if I tried. It's definitely a winner in my opinion.

21. Milani: Liquid Eye Pencil - Brown Cafe
A pencil eyeliner that looks like a liquid eyeliner when applied - interesting. I don't know why, but I thought this was more of a bronzy colour (despite the shade name). It's still nice though. It looks great applied really close to the lash line or smudged out for a softer look.
